A Greener Transportation Solution

There has been a lot of buzz recently in the automotive industry about alternative fuel technology, but Metro Cars, the leading transportation provider in Michigan, has been providing a greener transportation solution in Michigan for years.

With a history of innovation in the transportation industry, Metro Cars converted the majority of our sedans and airport shuttles to operate on clean-burning propane fuel beginning in 2005. Propane is recognized as a "Clean Air Choice" by the American Lung Association and is officially considered an "alternative fuel" by the U.S. Department of Energy. Propane is primarily produced in the United States, decreasing reliance on foreign energy sources and the environmental footprint associated with oil production and transport. It not only has a much smaller carbon footprint than gasoline or diesel, it also produces significantly fewer particulates and other pollutants that decrease air quality, potentially decreasing smog-producing emissions by as much as 80%, carbon monoxide by up to 40% and other greenhouse gas emissions by more than 20%.

Because of this latest innovation, Metro Cars received the prestigious Propane Exceptional Energy Fleet Award; one of only three companies in the country to receive this award.  We started our Propane Initiative because it's the right thing to do for our environment, and this award serves to validate that commitment.

We have also worked with the Federal Department of Energy to test hydrogen fuel technology in our airport shuttles.
